We will be in CT for 4 nights June 29-July 3. Friends have recommended us to stay in Vernazza. Would like recommendations on places to stay that cost less than $140 per night.

Check with Ivo Basso to see if he has a room available. I found him on tripadvisor and had a easy time booking a room through him. Only 80 euro per night. I'm guessing it's not glamerous or with an ocean view but it's affordable, right in town and clean. My impression while booking last month is that he has 2 new rooms this year. But his reviews are great! I can fill you in after I return on May 26th. :-)

You have many choices from single room rentals with private owners to a great hotel with various room types and a gorgeous new terrace for breakfast like Gianni Franzi (one of my favorites). Buon viaggio!

My favorite is with Cristian at La Marina Rooms. It's at the top of the town near the castle. It's a workout going up and down all the stairs. Perfect for all the pasta and seafood we ate.

I can also recommend eating at Belforte by the castle and go with the mussels antipasto dish.
