Suggestions for villa with pool in Tuscany for 17 people???

We are going to be in Italy for the month of July in 2008. There are 17 of us - a family reunion group. Mostly young adults and adults but three kids sixteen and under (mine). For one of the weeks we are there we would like to rent a villa with a pool in Tuscany. From the villa we want to do day trips to Florence and surrounding area. The cost will be split between three families - looking between $4-6,000. Any suggestions out there????

Marianne-we have used Suzanne B. Cohen & Assoc. in the past to book part of a "villa". I think you can just google her and get her company. Many of her listings were large properties that could be rented out all together or in smaller pieces. Also I wonder if Tuscany.net would have larger listings. Doing a search for italy agriturismos will also probably get you some listings.

While I can't help with a villa I can offer a few words of advise about trying to travel with 17 family members.

Don't try and herd everyone everywhere together. Plan a few special dinners, events etc. but let people do their own thing too.

We usually are in Italy in July / August because my husband's family still has ties to a small (very small) village in Abruzzi. this past summer we had 15 of us Americans there. We ended up staying in two villages! It was fun - but my father in law (the native Italian) was frustrated because the "other group" stayed in their village one day. He finally got tired of wondering where they were and got in the car and drove over there. Found them all scattered and loving the freedom to explore.

Enjoy the trip - it will be one your family remembers for many many years.

Check out rentvillas.com. There were only 9 of us, but the house we stayed in (with pool) had room for several more. Be sure and check out amenities which come with place you are staying (i.e., housekeeping service, welcoming dinner, supplies, etc.). We were not disappointed. Also, we had three cars, so we used walkie-talkies with several mile radius to keep in touch.

We (20 of us) stayed at Torre Palazzone (www.torrepalazzone.com) for a week in 2003. A couple of us went over to Italy the previous summer just to look at a bunch of options. Pallazone was far and away the best option. It's an old castle-type-thing just outside of Siena. Small village nearby, horses, biking, (small-ish) pool, great food. Worked out to about $75pp a night (that's 2003 dollars, mind you). e-mail me if you'd like more info.

We are going in November. The summer rate is #6000.00 I think if you book through this site.
The owners are local family friends and so there
are no surprises.

Have a Great Time...
