Suggestions for tour guides Rome and Venice

We will be with our 13 year old grandson and are looking for anyone who can suggest a specific guide or tour company for Vatican, Colosseum, and some sights in Venice. There are hundreds of options online, but we are wondering if anyone has specific recent experience for a good tour and guide, either private or small group. Thanks in advance.

We used The Roman Guy (aka The Tour Guy) for tours in Rome and Venice and were pleased with all of them.

In Rome, we did these tours with them:

Rome Catacombs Tour With Capuchin Crypts
First Entry Vatican Gold Tour with Sistine Chapel
Unforgettable Rome Day Trip to Pompeii and Sorrento

In Venice, we did this tour:
St. Mark’s Basilica & Doge’s Palace Half-Day Tour with Gondola Ride

We had originally booked just two tours with them, but when we had to cancel our 2020 tours, they gave us extra credits (in lieu of refunds, which would have put them under), and we were able to add on the Capuchin Crypts and Venice tours using those credits. We're really glad we did.

The only part of these tours that underwhelmed me was the Catacombs, but there were quite a few kids there, and they seemed to enjoy it.

We had a great experience in Venice on a private tour with Emanuele Ginocchi, a young guide who’s a Venice native. He’s very engaging and will customize the time together to your needs. His website is emanueleveniceguide.com.

Since my original post, I went ahead and booked 2 tours in Rome and one in Venice, with the company Walks in Italy. Immediately I saw a mistake on the booking as to the date of one tour, but their method on their website for Manage your Booking, didn’t work and couldn’t find my booking, in spite of charging my credit card. Since then, I have seen quite a few negative comments about them, especially with regard to being able to cancel your booking with full refund, which they advertise. I will attempt to call them during business hours, but meantime , does anyone have recent experience with them, good or bad?

Or as I asked in my original post, any particular tour or guide recommendations.

Thanks to the person who recommended a guide in Venice. I will contact him.
