Suggestions for Time in Florence

Hi friends

As a part of my upcoming Italy trip in May, I will be staying in Florence 4 complete days. I am really confused over planning my time. My initial plan is as follows :

-> Dedicate 2 full days to Florence. Something on these lines : reidsitaly.com/destinations/...

-> Day trip on 3rd day to Lucca and Pisa (I don't want to leave without visiting and climbing the tower)

-> Day Trip on 4th day to Siena (Have heard superb reviews about Siena)

However considering the above itinerary I feel that time in Florence is not enough. With the above itinerary, I would miss on biggies like Pallazo vechhio, piazzale michelangelo, Boboli Gardens, San lorenzo , Bargello etc.

  1. Is the above itinerary(in the link I shared) for Florence too fast, i.e. can I also fit in Pallazo vechhio, piazzale michelangelo, Boboli Gardens, Bargello in the 2 days?
  2. Should I take out the half day from Lucca and give it to Florence?
  3. Can I add San Gimignano with the day trip to Siena. Is public transport available to make it feasible?

Also, what according to you could be the best way to spend these 4 days.

P.S. It is my first time to Europe, and we are two 23 year old guys :-)

Thanks

Your plan looks great to me. Two full days in Florence are adequate for a first timer. Anymore time in a museum and you'll get the Stendhal Syndrome. If you go to Boboli gardens, walk all the way to the top to Forte Belvedere. Get inside and look at the view from the fortress. Anytime a visitor from out of town came to Florence I took them there, it's the best view of Florence, better than Piazzale Michelangelo if you ask me. But you can do both if you want. From Forte Belvedere when you exit, walk to the right. Then walk along the city walls on the outside (via di Belvedere). It's downhill, so it's easy. Once at the bottom, turn to the right and go up the stairs all the way up to San Miniato's Church. Visit the church (the most beautiful in Florence) then walk to Piazzale Michelangelo (100mt). At the end walk down through the 'rampe' (viale G. Poggi). You're 23 so no worries.
Unless you have a car, fitting Siena and San Gimignano in a day is not going to be easy. Doable but a rush. Once you visit the Palazzo Pubblico and the Duomo in Siena, then walk around, most of your day will be gone.

Hi Roberto
Thank you for your immediate reply.
For 2 days in Florence, I was considering this itinerary : http://www.reidsitaly.com/destinations/tuscany/florence/sights/florence_itin_2days.html
What are your suggestions on this itinerary. Can I add Pallazo vechhio, piazzale michelangelo, Boboli Gardens, Bargello to this itinerary. I think this itinerary depends on the amount of time i spend in uffizi. How much time do you think is adequate for Uffizi?

Thanks

Rieds itinerary is awesome. You need about two hours minimum in the Uffuzi, and an hour at the Accademia to visit David. You will LOVE the climb to the top of the Duomo, assuming you are fit and healthy. Skip Lucca if you want to see the other things in Venice. Siena is so wonderful you will not want to leave, and it take a full day to see the spectacular Duomo (the inside is far more beautiful than the inside of the duomo of Florence), the duomo museum & baptistery, wander through the town, visit the paleo, find the views, have some great food. I would skip San Gimignano.

Good luck.
