We will be renting a car as we leave Florence heading to Pienza. Can anyone suggest a couple towns to stop along the way? Any recommendations on Lucca or Volterra or anything else?

We will be renting a car as we leave Florence heading to Pienza. Can anyone suggest a couple towns to stop along the way? Any recommendations on Lucca or Volterra or anything else?
I recommend Lucca as a lovely stop. You can rent bikes to ride around atop the city wall, which is still complete. Or you can climb a number of the city's ancient towers.
