Suggestions for Rome lodging for family of 8

We are two sisters traveling with our families for 4 nights in Rome. We would like to rent an apartment centrally located so we don't completely wear the kids out with all the walking. Can anyone recommend a good safe apartment ( or even a hotel with family suites) that would accommodate 4 adults and 4 kids?
Thank you!

Stacey, I cannot recommend a specific apartment, but would offer this guidance. - stay centrally (Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Campo dei Fiori area, OR in Prati near the Vatican. Prati is my new favorite and it has excellent transportation options. Trastevere will work too, Monti (near the Colosseo) has some options, but it is not as convenient overall. - these area are all safe, very walkable, but also with public trans. options - search at VRBO.com, Cross-pollinate.com, Homelidays.com, all reputable rental sites
- I would avoid the Termini area. Although many recommend it, I find the restaurant options abyssmal and the area has had some crime issues, especially of late.... And it is just not as charming as the areas I mentioned above. Best of luck!

Stacey, we are in the same situation with 2 families traveling to Rome. We found 2 apartments near Piazza Navona and Campo di Fiori in the same building owned by the same couple. We are traveling in June so I can't yet attest to how nice it is, but it may be worth checking out. We like the apartment option as our 2 families each have 3 children and we wanted a washer and a kitchen. Http://www.vrbo.com/305032

In 2007 we rented an apartment through Doorways, Ltd. and were very happy. Maybe a bit pricey, but everything was as promised, or even a little better. Overall, it still cost less than 2 hotel rooms for our family of 4. You could also check Coach House Rentals. We used them in London in 2011 and were pleased. They also have rentals in Rome. I would use either service again. Good luck and have a great trip! the other Stacy

hi Stacey, we have rented from nextaway.com we used them on our last trip to rome and were able to get a great place next to the spanish steps. if you use an agency like some of the others have suggested you could contact them and tell them that you are looking for and they should be able to find you what your after! i hope it goes well with the search. it can become very overwhelming looking for an apartment on all the different sites! good luck!
