As part of an upcoming Italy trip, we will be going from Naples to Vieste on the Adriatic coast. But we probably won't be able to depart from Naples until mid-afternoon, so we're looking for suggestions for a nice overnight stop somewhere roughly on the way from Naples to Vieste. One idea is the town of Lucera -- any comments on that? Or, any other suggestions? Thanks.
Haven't been East of Naples or to the area around Vieste. But I would start by looking on Trenitalia for the schedule between the cities but more importantly which towns the train stops in. Look at some pictures of those towns and pic one to spend the night and get back on the train in the AM. Or find a town that has service from Naples and To Vieste direct so you keep train changes to a minimum
Matera - unique historical city. Evening passeggiata in full force. Are you driving? Taking the train?
Thanks for the suggestions. Actually, we will be driving, so we won't be limited to the train routes. After 2-3 days in Vieste, we plan to go to Matera for 2-3 days, then head west to Paestum and the Amalfi coast. So I'm looking for a nice stopover town in the general area of Foggia. Lucera looks like it could be a good option, but I'd be interested in hearing about other ideas.
Troia is a cute little town. One of our faves is Trani - maybe you could catch it on your way to Matera if not before.
