Hello, we are two women, mother, and daughter team who are travelling together in early July. We have been to Venice two years ago, which was wonderful and we have been to Rome so we were wondering what you think would be a seven day itinerary using public transportation, trains, or buses. We love villages, countryside, architecture, museums, and culture. Thank you for any help you can give us.
Seven days is not a lot but since you haven't been to Florence I think that is a great next destination given your interests.
You could do 4 nights in Florence and then 3 in Siena or Lucca with trips to Pisa or other Tuscan hilltowns thrown in. This is all easily doable by public transportation with maybe an organized tour from Siena thrown in for various other hilltowns.
Florence is obviously the best airport if you can fly into there followed by Pisa and then Bologna.
I'm sure people will have lots of suggestions, happy planning,

Florence can be really miserably hot in July. Be sure you're up for something like this:
Use the pull-down box at the right, just above the graph, to change the month and year displayed. I like to check the most recent five years.
In July you can run into serious heat just about anywhere in Italy that's not at high altitude, but for reasons of geography, Florence seems to be especially bad. Unfortunately, I don't have a good suggestion for you. It was hotter than I'd have wished for (though not hotter than I expected) in Milan, around Lake Como, in Verona and in the valleys near the Dolomites in August/September 2024.
Yours is a short trip, which should make the heat more bearable, especially if you're mentally prepared for it. Just be sure you choose lodgings with good air conditioning. I use the reviews on booking.com for that sort of research.
