Suggestions for hotels in Sorrento

Looking for a good valued hotel in Sorrento that won't be too expensive. Also, want to have good accessiblity to getting around the city and making day trips out to Pompeii and Capri.

Would love suggestions of where you have stayed!

Going to be there in a couple weeks!

We stayed at Hotel Minerva recommended in Rick's 2007 Italy book. It was a little splurge but less expensive than our hotels in Venice or Rome. I think the rate was 160 euros including a very good breakfast. The view was amazing. The hotel is on Via Capo so it was a little outside of the main downtown but right on the bus line(about 10 minutes to walk or 2 minutes by bus) The hotel catered to a predominantly British clientel so English was well spoken. Sorrento is so lovely that I don't think you would have a problem almost anywhere you stayed. There is a very nice looking hostel- more like a hotel - on the road leading to Marina Grande, just below Sorrento. If you can find the website of the Foreigners Club in Sorrento they would be able to give you some recommendations, too.

I just checked and the hostel I mentioned in my previous post is called Hotel Del Mare. You should be able to find it on a websearch with no problem.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Desiree which is conveniently located about 50 meters from either of two bus stops on either side and within comfortable walking distance to the center of activity. It is quiet and comfortable yet not lavish and we had a nice ocean view balcony. It seems we paid something like 95 euros per night which included a continental breakfast.

Il Nido in Sorrento is great and for the area, very well priced. It's a family run hotel and they are so friendly! There is free shuttle service from the Circumvesuviana to the hotel and we found them to offer free rides to other spots within Sorrento as well. The restaurant has great food.

Just stayed at Rick's Palazzo Starace. If you don't mind a 70 stair climb (I am fat and old and I did it 4-5 times a day), it is a great location.

Lori you don't say how long you are going to be there, but if it is for 4 or more days you might consider renting an apt. We found one on a Sorrento website. It was right in the middle of town with a view, balconys, etc, and it was less than the hotels!

We justed stayed in Sorrento Oct 24 and 25 at the Ulisse Deluxe Hostel. DO NOT let the word hostel scare you. This is by far the BEST hotel and CHEAPEST...54 Euro for a double. 5 Euro each for breakfast. Get directions as there are stairs from the main road we missed the first time. After spending 130 Euro in Rome, Venice, Veranna...this was quite the deal. Sorrento is lovely. Be sure to take the SITA bus down the coast for 5 Euro round trip. The jet boat to Capri is 25 Euro round trip and we had overcast skies and rain :(

We stayed for 3 days in late May in Sorrento and stayed at the Casa Astarita which Rick recommended. The location was great, right on the main street in Sorrento, which closes to car traffic at 7:30 each night and doesn't open again until the morning. Breakfast was included and was nice, but not a lot of selections. We had a balcony that looked right out on the main street, but was still very quiet. Very large room by Italian standards and a help yourself kitchen for water, etc. Was short walking distance to the Circumvesviana train to Pompeii or Naples and also to the ferry to Capri, both of which we did with no problem. Also they had internet access in the breakfast room.
