Judy, often university Professors and the colleges and universities themselves maintain apt. and living arrangements in cities such as Siena, Florence, Rome, etc. I have seen ads in the past for sublets throughout the year and one organization you might contact is the CAA, College Art Association. We have used www.VRBO.com many times. You rent the apartments directly from the owner which is always less because you do have an agency fee. This website has come up many times on RS website.
