Suggestions for a phone app that has offline maps

Hi. My husband and I will be in Florence and Rome this May. I need help finding a very easy to use, offline map for my iPhone. I’m not very computer literate, but I try hard. I just want to be able to put in point A and point B, then get walking directions between the two, with approx walking times.

Thanks to everyone for any suggestions !

We use Google maps downloaded for offline use. It does the trick. There are other apps out there.

google maps is the best for driving
maps.me is the best for walking

download ahead of time and you dont need data

i will say that 90% of the time , i grab a sim card when i arrive on a trip
i just like having data as a backup
the caveat being is : if you need calls or texts for work its not the best idea for you
i have been training my friends and family to use whatsapp and messenger for messages and calls

raeller I have used Google Maps on four RS tours. I load our hotels in an App called “Tripit” and never got lost. We use IPhones, T-Mobile, google photos, and download a map for the next day while on hotel WiFi. Be sure to change Googles maps to walking to get the best walking routes. Also our Apple wallet handles most purchases and meal payment plus transmitter and subways.
Enjoy safe travels

I use "offline" Google maps as well. However the offline version does not support walking directions. I would like to figure out some way to make it work. (It does do driving directions.) I just follow my location on the map to make sure i am going the right way.

I started with CityMaps2Go back in 2015 and initially found it workable. Then it went through a difficult patch and seemed to struggle to load maps. Sometimes I waited 20 minutes; it was strange. I also noticed, over time, that it didn't always find the places I searched for. I wasn't sure whether the issue was with diacritical marks in languages like Czech or an incomplete database of places and addresses. Places I could see if I looked manually on the zoomed-in map weren't always found via Search. I have now switched to Google's MyMaps, and its database seems to be a lot more robust.

Good day all,

Someone on this forum suggested an app to me some time ago and I wanted to pass it on. It's called mapy.cz and I have found it to be wonderful. I haven't taken it overseas yet but it works great on the trains in my local state/national parks with real time GPS location of my position on the trails. The app uses cell phone signals but you can also download maps by state/region for use offline. The app is available for Apple devices in the iTunes AppStore an it was free.

Good luck and happy travels!
