My mother and I will be in Milan for 8 days at the end of October, then would like to see another 2 cities or towns nearby for the remaining 4 nights (she’s already been to Bologna, so that’s out). I would love any suggestions or hints!

We’re flying in and out of Milan late afternoon so the last destination should have a train station that would get us to Milan before 11:00 am if we leave in the morning.
We love theater/art/churches/scenery and medieval towns. The areas around the lakes aren’t top of the list.
We’ll be in Milan October 23 - October 31, leaving out of Milan November 4.
Exactly what time does your flight leave?
Malpensa is an hour outside of Milan
You’ll want to be at the airport 3 hours preflight
I would not stay any further away than Milan itself- at least you can take the Malpensa Express as opposed to an expensive private driver
Can you adjust itinerary so your “ other” destination comes first with all your Milan nights at end of trip?
Of course you can look at a map and I assume you have done that

I'm seeing a bus from Turin to Malpensa that goes often and takes about 2 hours. I spent a week in Turin and LOVED it. Lots to see and do there, beautiful city.
