Suggestion on 1 tuscan area to spend a day

I would like to spend 1 day in in one of the tuscan places: Sienna, Chianti, or any of the tuscan areas. Can someone suggest me which one will be better, Sienna, Chianti, or any good tuscan area? Please remember I could afford only one day.

I presume you are doing this as a day trip from Florence? I think you can do Siena and some of Chianti in one day from Florence. I have been to Siena twice and loooooove it. (That is kind of an inside joke to people who read Rick Steves's travel books.)

I have not been out into the Chianti countryside, but I think it is pretty much between Siena and Florence. I have heard very good things about Radda and Greve.

I vote for a hill town, San Gimignano. It has everything. Great views, medieval towers and plazas, vg restaurants, easy hill walking, gd shops and at days end good gelato. enjoy.
fortunately all of the 7 tuscan towns I have visited are just alittle diff from one another. so whichever you decide you prob won't be disappointed.

If you have a rental car, the drive along the Chianti Road is beautiful. The small towns - Radda, Gaole, etc. are great to stop in and sample wine. If you aren't into countryside, wine and don't have a car, then I'd go to Siena.

I didn't loooove Sienna! There are prettier squares in Florence. Maybe it was the dry summer they had, but I just didn't get it, and neither did my three traveling companions! I understand San Giornamo (sp?) is lovely with more interesting ruins, etc. Also if it is a day trip from Florence, Fiosole is only 20 minutes and everyone I met there loved it
