Suggestion for Rome tour with teens (must include Gelato)

Hello,

We are looking for a private tour that could include some food. We have two teen girls and think it would be best if we did a tour that someone else lead so they could be more entertained therefore we all enjoy ourselves more.

Any suggestions? The Colosseum is the one for sure and then can choose more form there. An advice traveling with teens?

Thanks
Karen

As to specific food tours, I love what Elizabeth Minchilli blogs about and I would guess her tours would be quite lively. But that is a food-only tour. I think it would be hard to get someone to do a food-and-Colosseo tour, but my recommendation for the Colosseo and Ancient Rome (Palatino & Foro Romano should not be missed) is Sonia Tavoletta ([email protected]).

Walks of Italy might also have something that intrigues you.

I imagine the hardest part of traveling with teens will be getting them up-and-out early. If you wil be here in the summer, early outings are crucial as by Noon the heat is to be avoided. You do NOT want to be in the Colosseo at 3:00PM in the Roman sun.

BTW, you all might enjoy this night-time tour opportunity which is really two separate events in the Forum area, one a stationery show and one a tour.

Google Sara Magister for a good tour guide. PhD in all things Roman. She will tailor your day for whatever you want to see. With teens be sure to do the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Capitoline Hill and its museums are way cool too.

It is impossible to miss a gelato stop in Rome. They are plentiful.

I have no personal experience with Katie Parla, but I love her books, videos and blog. (She also went to the same college as I did, so of course I think she's great.) I want to book a tour with her when I'm there, but I'm traveling solo and she only does private tours. She's younger than many guides, so your teens might enjoy her.

If you decide against a tour with Katie, at least get her book Walking Rome (National Geographic walking series). It's awesome, I'm using it for my planning almost exclusively (other than Rick, naturally).
