Suggested Private tour guide in Pompeii

Absolutely do whatever you want, but I'm honestly not sure how my Pompeii guide experience would have been better if the tour was private vs our small group. Sometimes the questions others asked were things I wouldn't have thought of.

There are guides available at Pompeii but the site does not provide guides so they are all independent. All guides are tested and licensed in Italy but that doesn't guarantee enthusiasm or dedication.

Watch the PBS documentaries on the recent excavations and real up on the various sites and I think you'll have sufficient information and context to appreciate the site. Rick also has an audio guide that accompanies his walk if you want more information on site but something short of a guide.

Good advice. If up to doing a good bit of advance reading, here's a pretty comprehensive online printed guide in English that I picked up off the official website awhile back.
