I have just retired and am looking for a studio apartment--maybe even a bedroom with a hot plate--that I can rent for 2-3 months while I get to know Rome and visit the sites. Any suggestions that won't break the bank?
No recommendations but a gentle reminder that you can only stay in Italy for 90 days (not three months) unless you obtain a visa. And those 90 days include any trips made to other western Europe countries -- commonly know as the Schengen zone.
Thanks, Frank. I actually knew that and should have said 90 days, but it is probably the only thing I know, so please send other "gentle reminders" you think may be appropriate!
Try www.vrbo.com. Depends on time of year (not cheap in the peak period) and how far out of the Centro Storico you are willing to stay. If you "live" out past the Vatican or out by Parco degli Acquadotti, for example, it should cost much less and you are a short Metro ride from the center.
Depends on the size of your bank. :-) It's certainly doable, but I hope you're planning pretty far ahead. When are you planning on going? We're going to be renting a small inexpensive apartment near Campo de' Fiori in May and I could report back after we return. We found it through vrbo.com. It's an excellent resource. It's 85E a night, but we're only staying 6 nights. Most of these places give bigger discounts the longer you stay. Do you have a specific figure in mind?
And as I mentioned to you in a PM (with more details), you might consider doing one month each at three different places in Rome.
Hi Maria
You can also check freereservation.com Like another poster says, may be cheaper for longer stay. Can also look at homeaway.com Do you homework and hope all goes well.
Hi Maria, We are staying in Rome for 60 days and Lisbon for 30 days and ended up finding great places using any and every website we can find. In addition to the ones mentioned, try these: homelidays.com, airbnb.com, and any combination of apartment, rental and Rome in your search engine.
Also, feel free to negotiate if the owner seems willing. For example, the owner of our apartment was going to charge extra for gas/electricity, but we compromised and now she is charging us a flat rate - all inclusive. If you have lots of time, you can really find something that suits your needs and your budget.
