Student ID

In Ricks 2010 Venice update:"Venice’s city museums now offer youth and senior discounts to Americans and others who aren’t citizens of the European Union." Can I use my US college ID or do I need an International Student ID card?

I found that places that offered youth or student discounts were happy with your normal student ID. I never saw anyplace that needed the "International Student ID card", maybe someone else has had a different experience.

I'm glad they're offering discounts in Venice now. The place I ran into the most resistance to student discounts, for non EU people, was Italy.

Hi, Eileen. My experience was that as long as my student ID had the date on it (school year, etc) I had no problems.

A had a few turn me down when my card didn't have the date on it.

For my money, it's worth getting the ISIC - not sure if they still do, but they used to have some built in trip insurance that was yours free with the card, it does have the dates on it, and they had a couple nice discounts - it's easy to make the money you spend on it back.
