Student discount on Uffizi, Academia, and Vatican

So, when I read from the official websites, it seems that anyone between 18 and 26 with a student id can get a discount in these sites, and they don't have to be from the EU. My twins have student ids, and are 24. Will the ids need to have a date on them, or will just showing them do the trick? Do the same rules apply if we want to get the Firenze card? I'm still deciding what to do, also the Uffizi membership seems like another way to go. So confusing!

For the Vatican the cards need to be current for this year in order for them to get the discount. They must be active students to qualify.

The purpose of the International Student Identity Card is to act as dated, recognizable student ID for these purposes, so that the sites don't have to try to interpret or validate ID from each college in the world. It costs $25, so you have to weigh that cost against the number of sites where you expect student discounts.

I actually contacted the Vatican museums last year before a trip with college students. They said that just the official college I.D. was fine as long as it had a picture of the student and was current. There was no translation needed.

I understand the need for a universal student I.D. at some sites but the Vatican museums doesn't require one in order to get the discount.

A new Italian law/regulation was issued on May 31, 2014. The Uffizi and Academia sites are not up to date. The law affected various museum discounts so any knowledge based on prior to May 31st may no longer be true.

Students up to 26 still get the discount. Seniors no longer get a discount and the first Sunday of each month the state run sites offer free entry to everyone.
