Hi, in the off chance there is anyone in who could advise, we got as far as Sondrio on our route to Milan and the trains are not running until a window 6-9pm. The first train out after 6pm will not arrive in Milan until after 9pm, so they might cancel that train. Our choices are minimal. Any other ideas?
You may want to correct the title of your post. It was not a "rain" strike
Lol. Thank you for letting me know.
A quick internet search brought up blabla cars and carpooling. I don’t know much more about this option but it might be worth exploring.
Hello melrowgo, I'm sorry you're running into issues already,
Based a quick search it looks like you can get from Sondrio to Dubino (which is near the lake) by Bus.
Look at the A1 bus to Chiavenna
https://www.stps.it/orari-linee
And from Dubino get to either to:
1) Colico
Using bus Dubino - Passaggio a Livello to Colico (or a taxi it's a 9 minute ride) and then see about the
Linea C10 Como - Menaggio - Colico to get to Como
https://www.asfautolinee.it/orari_pdf/estivo/C10.pdf
Or you could look into the ferry from Colico to Como which would probably be slower but at least more scenic for your troubles.

2) Sorico across the lake and take a bus to Como on the other side of the lake. This is longer and less direct but remains an option.
Once in Como is much closer to Milan and train or bus is an option: Check out FlixBus for this route.
I hope it doesn't come to this since the train is better than three buses (or two buses and a ferry) but it does look like it's possible.
Hopefully it will all work out and this will just be a back-up plan that gives you some options.
Good luck,

Try the 18:41 train to Milano, arriving at 20:40; or the train one hour later - even if the guaranteed time ends at 21:00, a train less than one hour from its final destination is generally given a complete run. I guess both could be crowded.
If not, there is little you can do; the trenord regional network is today almost at a standstill.
Thanks so much for the advice. We decided to wait for the 18:41 train, which was guaranteed. We lost 6 hours in Milan (only had 1.5 days), but we spent the afternoon in Sondrio with a lovely couple from the UK who were also stranded.
It's not a vacation, it's an adventure!
I see you arrived with only 4 minutes delay; the 19:41 trains was cancelled instead. I would say you were lucky. Do not worry for the lost time; problems may happen at any time and overly tight plans are more exposed.
