Struggling with Itinerary: Italy? Austria?

Would appreciate some advice. Am planning a very last-minute trip and don't want to stretch it too thin. We have about ten days and looking to book it for next week. Family of four including sons ages 19 and 21. I've found doable flights to Venice or Munich round trip.

I read someone's itinerary who started in Venice, Verona, Innsbruck and Salzburg all by train and then departed of Munich. Financially, this isn't an option for us. The round-trip tickets are so much less expensive. The itinerary sounded amazing. Loved the idea of seeing some of Italy, but also the mountains, where we could try hang gliding and hiking.

Do you think I need to make a choice of Austria or Italy? Would Venice and then the Dolomites make more sense? Would appreciate any input. I know this is a nice problem to have. With airfares increasing by the day, I really need to book this very soon. Thanks!!!

If you only have ten days, don’t add too many locations. Venice and the Dolomites would give you a wonderful trip. I personally prefer Italy to Austria but whatever you choose, less is more!

Yes! I was thinking this as well. Have you been to the Dolomites in May? I'm reading that things may be closed down at that time of year? Also, there still might be a lot of snow?

You will have problems with mountain passes not being open all over during the month of May.
Ten nights actually in country, or days ten days total traveling?
I'd suggest Italy. Have you found reasonable accommodations?
Hope it all goes well. Safe travels!

Yes, I'm worried about the weather and time of year not being ideal. I haven't booked anything - no flight or lodging yet. Thank you.
