Hi, we would like to get out of Rome tomorrow for a short, easy day trip. Going to Orvieto on Saturday. Don’t think I want to see any more of the ruins this trip. Maybe a nice town to roam for several hours. Thanks. Just looked in Ricks Rome book... looking for something else.
You could go to Pompeii for the day. That is one thing I had looked at doing when I went to Rome but it didn't pan out.
Much closer is Frascati, about an hour from Roma. Or Castel Gandolfo.
We went to Pompeii while in Sorrento, thanks for your input.

What about Tivoli?
There is supposed to be a general strike tomorrow, November 10th. Transport may be an issue.

There are many quieter places in Rome. For example, we enjoyed the Etruscan museum and it's gardens. We also enjoy just picking a neighborhood, like Cavour, and wandering around. Ostia Antica is wonderful to visit too (very quietand beautiful- just ignore the ruins).
You could aways do the food tour by Eating Italy in Testaccio. Still in Rome but in a part that most people don't wander into and our tour was fantastic. You learn a little bit of history and meet people from all over the world. I believe we took a taxi and got there around 11:00 and the tour lasted till about 4:00. We did not want to eat the rest of the day but thoroughly enjoyed our time in Testaccio.
We have decided to stay in Rome tomorrow, go to some of the other neighborhoods and just wander. Thanks for the ideas. Will still try Orvieto on Saturday.
