Stromboli island

I’ll be staying in CefAlu and was wondering if its worth a day trip to the island. Do we need to spend the night? We are in out 60’s and 70’s and I’m also wondering if we can get to the top of the volcano

My husband and I just climbed Mt. Stromboli this fall, and it was the highlight of our trip. We are 63 and 64 and didn't find the hike too difficult, but everybody else in the group (except for the guide) was 20 to 30 years younger than we are. We were on a hike that left at 4:30 pm; I don't know if there are hikes earlier in the day but seeing the eruptions in the dark was awesome. There is a store where you can rent hiking boots (low cut shoes not allowed) and a headlamp for the descent.

Jone: Are low cut hikers not allowed?
I rarely wear high boots and never been anywhere in not winter time where I would prefer them over low cut hikers. I definitely would not want to pack high boots.

Seems a silly rule if true, but wanted to clarify as maybe it is just a restriction on sneakers and shoes but not low cut hikers.

My hiking boots are "mid" and those passed inspection. The guide sent some people to rent boots. The first 20 minutes of the descent were glissading through deep ash and even with gaiters my boots had a lot of stuff in them.
