Strikes

Which services were on strike, and are they continuing in Sept. and Oct.? I'm wondering about N. Italy & Firenze.

In the past month there were threads here that provided links to the official union sites that list all scheduled strikes, dates, durations, systems impacted etc. This is IMHO less unreliable than word of mouth.

Re. strikes: will they pose a hazard to tourists doing
normal tourist things? What about trains?

Strikes are not terribly significant and generally short maybe a day or two at most. If it affects transportation, not all transportation shuts down. A few trains and buses continue to run. In all of our travels have only hit one train strike in Spain so we took the bus which was not affected. The next day everything was normal.

Does a strike ever affect Venice, their water taxi's or water buses? I've been to Italy many times and even during a short strike, but this is my first trip to Venice.

Yes, strikes DO affect Venice and the vaporetti, etc., the same as they might affect Rome and the buses or Metro. Just depends on the strike......
