Can anyone clarify what the strike for May 6 will involve? One site I have referred to indicates that it will affect local buses and trams. Another site indicates that it will affect trains and airplanes. I plan on traveling from Verona to Ravenna on May 6 in the late afternoon via train and would like to know if this strike will affect my plans. If so, I need to work on plan B. Thanks

Its hard to tell because some times scheduled strikes get cancelled. I had the same problem where a strike was scheduled the day I was supposed to leave the CT. However, the day of the strike I went to the train station and was told the strike was cancelled, so no problem. I would just build some flexibility into your schedule so if there is a strike you can just stay in Verona and extra day and head to Ravenna on the 7th.

This is funny. I fly out of Portland, via JFK, for FCO the morning of May 6, to arrive in Rome the morning of May 7. There have been a ton of pesky problems that keep cropping up, so it's kind of funny I can now worry about how a strike will affect my trip! I already had a nightmare about meeting my connection at JFK.

The site that I keep an eye on for a trip is: http://www.commissionegaranziasciopero.it/index.jsp This lists the strikes and their updates, such as withdrawals. Scan through the dates and look for Trenitalia or another line such as Nord, etc that might be affected. If you don't understand something in Italian copy it over to a translator... I wouldn't worry about that strike as it is not involving transportation. It is really too early for you to be worrying about strikes. About a week or so ahead of your trip, check again.

I'm worried myself about the one on May 21, as I have to get from Naples to Lecce, but hey what can you do? It's Italy :)
