A public transportation strike is scheduled in Italy on Friday, June 15th. I will begin that day in Pisa and finish in Rome. Can anyone tell me what that means? I was planning on taking a bus in both cities and probably use the Metro in Rome. Will both of these be out of service? Will I be left with taxi service only or on foot? Are there other options? Also, should I assume that the train will be running to take me from Pisa to Rome?
I've been in Italy during 2 such strikes. The first was in Vernanzza...I believe the locals referred to it a "strike on the side" or something...anyway, there were sporadic trains, one of which stopped and it was extremely full....but I was squeezed in. Second time, we were a little farther up the coast. The hotel told us about the strike the next day and that we were stuck...juggled reservations and spent the day hiking to Portifino...:)....I would have a plan b just in case you are stuck in Pisa....
Thanks for the back up plan advice. From the website I looked at it looks like trains will run that day but the bus and subway might not. To get from Rome Termini to the Vatican I guess I could take the train to the S. Pietro station which is within walking distance. In Pisa, I could take a taxi.
