stresa to como

Other than taking a train to Milan and then changing on to another train to Como, is there an easy way to take a bus from Stresa to Como by-passing Milan thereby saving time. From Como we propose to take a slow boat to Bellagio. Thanks.

What is more scenic is to take the train from Milan Centrale to Varenna-Essino, check out Varenna, then ferry across to Bellagio, explore Bellagio, sleep there or Varenna, then take ferry to Menaggio. You get the panoramic views when you're out on mid-Lake. You by pass town of Como, no views there. Back to Milan Centrale from Varenna-Essino by train. Or by shuttle from town of Como bus station to MXP by special shuttle bus.

I don't know about a bus from Stresa to the town of Como, but we did take the slow boat from the town of Como up the lake to Bellagio that you want to take and we LOVED it. It is very scenic and took about an hour if I remember correctly. If you do take the train from Milan, be sure you get a ticket into the station that is across the road from the boat dock. The other station (that we were sent to) is further away, but walkable and luckily we packed light. Once you get to Bellagio you can still get the ferry to explore Varenna etc.
