Stresa - question about temporary bus to Milan

Hi forum, I’ve read that there’s currently work on the train tracks between Milan & Stresa. I am planning to stay in Stresa for three days in early September. My favorite little hotel on Isola Bella will be my final night there. In order to get off the island in the morning, the first short ferry to Stresa runs at 8:10 and arrives at 8:20am. I have taken this one previously and was able to walk up to the train station in time to catch the train.

Has anyone currently taken the temporary bus at the train station from Stresa down to Arona to switch to the train? Is the bus full? If I have purchased the bus ticket through the Trenitalia app, is there still the chance I will be left waiting in a line for the next bus? I have a set of connections to reach Pavia, so I am wondering if the domino effect could come into play. Thanks!

I don't know the answer, Jean, but I wanted to wish you a lovely stay on Isola Bella. I wore the hat I got there every day in the sun including today.

I miss it there - have a great time. Good luck getting the bus.

Are you going to the Certosa di Pavia? If so, lucky you. Three times I have tried and for various reasons three times I have failed.

Hi Nigel, yes, I am hoping to get to the Certosa di Pavia while I am there. Any hints to make sure I get there? ; )

This will be my 4th time staying in Stresa. I love the beauty & atmosphere of the location - one of my favorite places to get over jet lag and transition into being back in Italy. I'm planning something different this time. I have a reservation at the Regina for their cheapest single room - probably will be facing the garbage bins - LOL! But the hotel interior is so pretty, plus it came with breakfast. My last day/night will be back at Isola Bella at the Elvezia tiny hotel for the 3rd time. This will probably be the last time I stay at Stresa for awhile since I tend to be focusing more on the southern part of Italy now.

Did you book the replacement EC service? Or the regional bus? If you booked the EC Bus you should not have to worry as that is a service with compulsory reservation, so they know in advance how many busses they need to provide.
For the regional service, which are basically turn up and go mass transit things might be a bit less organised.

But anyway, if you miss a connection Trenitalia must accept you on the next available one, so you should make it to Pavia.

Hi WengenK, I have purchased my train tickets on that route, yet, since they’re not the Frecciarossa type, and it won’t be for a few more weeks. But I was planning the Trenord 6419A & Trenord 2419 to reach Milano Centrale. And then the Intercity 649 to reach Pavia.
