We will be spending two nights on Lake Maggiore at the very end of April. I had planned to stay in Stresa since many here recommend it, but in my research I am finding that I like the hotel choices much more in Baveno. We will have a car and we do plan to visit the islands. Other than that, we just plan to poke around, drink good wine and eat lovely food.
For those that have been, what is your preference and why? Grazie.

I enjoyed my stay in Baveno but there’s definitely more to do in Stresa; shops & restaurants.

For comparison we prefer Bellagio to Varenna due to the views, food choices and fewer blue travel books and wash and wear clothes. 😊😊😉

Lake Maggiore is not as popular with the followers of the Church of Rick Steves of the Latte Tray Saints as Lake Como therefore you won’t see as many people carrying the blue and golden Gospel according to Steve.
