Hi. I’m hoping someone can help me with this. My partner and self need to get from Stresa to Verona on Sept 15. Months ago I purchased a regional train ticket from Stresa to Milano Porto Garibaldi and then fast train tickets from Milano Porto Garibaldi to Verona Porto Nuova. Now that the tracks are messed up between Stresa and Milan, the trip via train involves two short train rides and a one hour bus ride. We have a heavy suitcase and a carryon we’d have to move on and off the trains and bus. Thus, I’m considering just taking a bus from Stresa to Milano Centrale and changing my freccoccia fast train tickets to being from Milano Centrale to Verona. I have two questions. (1)is there any reason this would not be a good plan? Something I might not be considering? And (2) is the bus station in Stresa AT the train station? I cannot find any address for a bus station there. .
As we’re going to and from Stresa mid October, where did you get the info on problems with the tracks? Web still shows many trains to Milan Central and then onto Verona.
Thanks
Hi; I got the info originally from someone who posted about it. It was news to me too!! So when I actually looked at the “journey details” listed on the trenitalia website about ALL the trains scheduled between Stresa and Milan I saw the details state that a bus must be part of the journey between Arona and Sesto Calende. This is why, rather than the 1 hour it should take, it takes 2!!! By the time you travel in October, they may be finished with their repairs.
Also, yes, it shows many trains but all the ones next week are taking twice as much time because if the bus segment necessary to skirt the track repairs. This is why I’m now considering just taking a bus. But I’d like some confirmation about where the bus station is in Stresa. I can’t find it on Google maps.
I believe the end date for that track work is 9/19?
We are there just after and taking train to Bergamo thru Milan, no indication for disruption on our day 9/20
Try https://www.stresa.com/transports It shows a bus from Milan but I couldn’t see where the bus station / stop is. Suggest that you contact your hotel for info as generally they are quite helpful.
It has been a couple of years (thanks covid) since we were there (we stayed nearby at Baveno). I remember distinctly the train station but did not notice any bus station. There were a couple of bus stops on the main road near the ferry dock - that may be what you need. Ask your hotel.
