street markets in Amalfi villages

we'll be visiting Italy in Sept and staying somewhere near Sorrento or along the Amalfi coast (thinking, Positano, Praiano, Ravello, Amalfi but nothing has been finalized yet). I dream on waking in the morning and walking down to the village street markets with my fishnet sack over my shoulder and filling it with fresh breads and pastries and cheeses. WHERE can I make this dream a reality??

Sorrento is not on the Amalfi Coast, rather on Bay of Naples.

I went to Amalfi, Sorrento, Positano last May and stayed in St Agnello (one stop before Sorrento) in the Bay of Naples.
Those towns Positano, Sorrento, Amalfi are too touristy crowded though for that kind dream it seems; but maybe I'm wrong.
There is maybe another town that is not as overrun along that stretch .

Sorry -- Sorrento is a consideration as well. My error. I'd like to know where we CAN enjoy such an experience.

Unless that has changed, I believe the market in Sorrento is only on Tuesdays and may be a bit of walk from where you're staying, depending on where that is. Don't overlook the shops and supermarkets in town; lots of variety and good quality.

I would guess that any outdoor markets in the other villages are probably only 1 day a week as well and possibly not in especially convenient areas for tourists. Let's just say I wouldn't base your choice of location on markets?

We just returned from Italy, having spent 4 days in upper Furore (which is between Amalfi and Positano. It was off-season, and just waking up for spring. We found the "traditional" markets (stores) to be great. In case you are interested in fruits and veggies, there are a few markets in Amalfi that had a super fresh selection and I suspect that this is also true for the other towns on the AC. Craving a fresh salad, we went to a market that was tucked in a small alley off the main path in Amalfi. We selected beautiful lemons, oranges, garlic and tomatoes, and were a little disappointed when we realized a big green salad was not on the menu that evening. Then, from behind the counter, the gentleman inquired, "Salad?" and we said, Si, Si! And he opened a back door and we entered a room FULL of the greenest greens and everything to make a salad. We brought our own shopping bags (key!), and filled them for only 15 euros! It felt like our traditional New England Saturday farmer's market right there in that back room (and actually tasted even better). We also saw specialty markets: a few for fresh fish, a few for meat, and a few for baked goods. Enjoy your time! It is an absolutely beautiful location.

There are weekly markets in Sorrento, Amalfi, Ravello, Minori, Maiori and Vietri sul Mare. Check with your lodging for days and times.
We've even hit individual venders at several locations on the coast road, usually at the turnabouts or view points.
