Strasbourg to Italy Lakes region

Is it possible to get a direct train from Strasbourg to the Lakes area? We had planned on Como but is there a better spot for 3 nights in October?

No, no direct trains.
Which train route you take depends on which lake, and where on that lake you are going: Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano, Lake Como, Lake Garda.
You can look up trains on the SBB (Swiss Railways) website: https://www.sbb.ch/en

Como town is at the south-east end of Lake Como. Strasbourg to Como S. Giovanni (Como town) would involve 2 or 3 changes, via Basel and Lugano and take about 6 hours. Other places on the lake are reachable by boat or bus from Como town; or Mennagio on the west side by bus from Lugano.

There is a rail line down the east side of lake Como which doesn't go via Como town. Varenna on the east side gives you the option of taking the slow but more scenic Bernina Line over the Alps from Switzerland.

There is 1 train per day with only a single change in Basel to Como on lake Como, or another to Stresa on Lake Maggiore. All others require more changes.

At Como San Giovanni station, you can get a bus to Bellaggio.
