RS mentions free luggage check on site at Pompeii. Has anyone used this? Is it accessible enough that after we do Pompeii we could leave our bags there for a trip to Vesuvius and still be able to pick them up when we return? Thanks!

The left luggage area is right at the main entrance where you buy your tickets. Just across from the train stop. It would be solely dependent on the hours of operation.

You can, or you could in 2006, leave your luggage at the kiosk that serves the train station. We did, it worked well and then continued on to Sorrento.

Two years ago, we left our bags at the luggage check enroute to Sorrento. Spent about 4 hours at Pompeii before picking up the bags and continuing on. As long as you get back before they close the luggage check, you shouldn't have any problems.
