Storage of luggage question

Hello everyone.
We will be staying in Florence overnight just one night. A day trip from Cortona. My question is what do we do with our luggage for the day if we will be checking out that morning? We have museum reservations for that morning as well.
We are a party of six. Thank you

Hi -
If I'm straight, you're checking out of Cortona in the morning, going to Florence for the day and staying the one night there?

Most hotels will stow the bags of early arrivals until check-in time. Could you drop them off at your Florence accommodation as soon as you arrive?

Otherwise, there is bag storage at Santa Maria Novella train station. I'm guessing you'll be arriving at that one?

Your post is not clear. Is your trip to Florence a day trip (starting and ending the day in Cortona) or an overnight (sleeping in Cortona on day 1, sleeping in Florence on day 2, and sleeping in Cortona again on day 3)?

If you are staying in a hotel and not an apartment, you can usually leave luggage after you have checked out or before you have checked in. If you are taking an overnight away and then returning to the same hotel, most hotels will store bags for a day, so you only have to take a small bag with one day's worth of clothes, etc.

However, if you are staying in an apartment and not a hotel, you will have to make alternate arrangements for your luggage.

Sorry for the confusion.
We are travelling to Florence by train from Cortona where we have an apartment in Cortona. We will be staying over night in Florence. This is a side trip from Cortona.

The second morning we will be checking out of room in Florence but still want to spend the day in Florence. So what to do with luggage? We will be taking train back to our base apartment in Cortona later that day. Hope this is more clear.

Common situation. The hotel will store you luggage for you.

After you check out, ask the hotel to store your luggage for you. Then when you are ready to go to Cortona, go back to the hotel, pick up your luggage, and head to the station to get on your train.

The alternative is to leave luggage at the station storage facility (Deposito Bagagli, lit. Baggage Depot). This option will cost you a few euro per piece (check link above).

OK. That sounds reasonable. I just didn't know what the usual routine would be for those who have luggage but yet still want to spend the day in Florence before boarding the train. Thank you for your responses. Hopefully our B&B will allow us to do that. My son and his wife will be with us as well and they will have more luggage as they will be heading to Rome for the flight home the next day or so.
