My husband and I will be driving from Cinque Terre to Venice. We have the day and would like to take our time. Looking for suggested stops along the way. Looked into Parma and Bologna. Just wanted to see if there are any other favorites out there.
Have you driven in Italy before? You need to be very careful with driving into city centers. You don't want to enter the ZTL's and get a ticket. You will have to plan carefully where to park if you want to wander around these cities. Also be very aware of the speeed limit if you are driving over the bridge to Venice. It is a known speed trap.
In order of arrival: Parma, Reggio E., Modena, Bologna, Ferrara, Padua. In order of my personal preference: Padua, Bologna, Parma, Ferrara, Reggio E., Modena. Take your pick.
We did that drive last year. WE stopped in Padova. The Giotto in the church there is magnificent. We also just loved walking around for the afternoon. Just need an afternoon though. We did on our way to Venice in the same day. Of course you also have Milan, lots to do there and Verona.
