Stopover in Milan to See Last Supper

Does anyone know if it's possible to get off the train from Venice to Siena long enough to see the Last Supper without spending a night in Milan?

I would say ONLY if you had guaranteed reservations. Good Luck.

You should take a look at a map first. Milan is WAAAAAY off the path between Venice and Siena. It would be a little like going from New York to Washington by way of Chicago. (I exaggerate to make a point.) In fact, Venice, Milan and Siena make an almost perfect triangle.

I agree. Milano isn't exactly "on the way" between Venice and Siena, but you could drive the 3 hours from Venice to Milan, see the Last Supper and then do the 3 plus hour drive down to Siena. Just be prepared for a long day of driving on the A4 and the A1. Or bite the bullet and stay the night in Milan.

Claudia is right about needing guaranteed reservations.
Very hard to get tickets in the last minute. I booked a reservation for the Last Supper six months ago for my November trip.

Thank you all for responding. We will definitely make a reservation and overnight in Milan.

You RS traveler's helpline folks are the best.

We never got the confirmation for our tickets to see the Last Supper (but were not charged either) I found Milan harder to navigate than others.

Get a good map and if I recall the train station and church with last supper at not really close together.

Safe travels

Kathleen, since your time is limited why not try a tour that guarantees a visit to the Last Supper? I am flying home in November from Milan. Tickets to the Last Supper were unavailable for the date I'll be there. I'll be arriving by train in the morning and have scheduled a 3.5 hour tour with Zani Viaggi for 2;30 p.m. that visits the Duomo, La Scala, etc and guarantees entrance to The Last Supper. Rick lists this company in the Italy book and I've read good reviews about them. So, while I can't vouch for them personally, I think (and hope) this is a good way to see the highlights of Milan as well as the Last Supper.

Teena, thank you so much--that is exactly what we will do. Thanks again to everyone who commented.

Well, my wife and I were traveling from Cinque Terre to Venice, stopped in Milano at 10 AM, stored our bags at Centrale, grabbed the Metro to Piazza Duomo, shopped, saw the Duomo, had a very quick bite to eat, and took the bus to see The Last Supper. We had reservations in advance, and arrived 30 minutes before our appt, just to make sure. Then we took the bus back to the Metro back to Centrale, collected our bags, and boarded a 3:00 PM train to Venice, arriving around 6 PM or so. Can definitely be done--and it was an exciting, whirlwind visit--but requires careful planning. Buon viaggio!

Teena,
I booked that same tour! It looks like a great tour if you don't have much time in Milan. I will be in Milan for a few days, but on business. I like that tour for my free time.

We have also booked the 230 with Zani on October 31.
