Stop to see Passignano sul Trasimeno?

We are driving from Siena to Perugia and will be passing by Lake Trasimeno.

Wondering if we should take the time to stop for a visit in Passignano sul Trasimeno to see the town and the lake?

Also consider Monte de Lago; we have visited this lakeside village twice.

I generally like to stop there if I’m passing by lunch time. It’s a very quaint village (with a fortress on top with great views of the lake and a nice lakefront). Before they finished the freeway around it in the 1980s the drive forced you through the town on the lakefront boulevard and I never missed the opportunity for a restaurant stop (especially if there was traffic). Now the traffic is gone with the freeway on the hillside, so it’s even more enjoyable. There is a restaurant/deli shop called la bottega di zefferino where you can have a quick cheap lunch with lakefront view. If you prefer fish, there is Il Pescatore in the historical center.

Roberto, thanks for the advise. Any suggestions for convenient parking for a short stop there?

There is street parking in the streets perpendicular to the lakeshore. Along the shore past the ferry dock there is also a larger parking lot.

Roberto,

I should ask you, if you were driving form Siena to Perugia, where would you suggest stopping along this drive? Would Passignano sul Trasimeno be your first choice? This is only our second trip to Italy so your suggestions will be appreciated.

If you don't mind, I have another question for you regarding Regional train tickets in Italy.

We are traveling from Monterosso to Siena and see 2 options of interest. One at 9:42 am with 3 stops (La Spezia, Pisa, and Empoli),
and the second leaving at 11:07 sith 2 stops (Pisa and Empoli).

If we miss the 9:42 am departure, can we use these tickets for the second route leaving at 11:07?

These are the 2 answers that I received from LOCO2 rep...

According to the information I have is that regional tickets are valid for 3 hours from the departure time shown on the ticket.

"Please note that a regional ticket is only valid on other regional services on the same route and cannot be used on a different route/service.

I have compared the itineraries and the itinerary with departure time 9:42 is not the same as the one with departure time 11:07, therefore you cannot use the tickets of one to travel on the other, as the tickets are only valid on the specified route of each single ticket."

Is the above correct, we cannot use the earlier tickets for the later trains?

Thank you.

First of all you should not buy regional tickets online ahead of time. Just buy at the station on the day of departure or the day before. When you buy you must specify the date of travel.
When you depart (whenever that is, with the first or second option) before boarding you must validate the tickets (date and time stamp) at the green machines along the tracks. You have 4 hours to complete the trip from that moment.
Both the trains you mentioned follow the same itinerary: via Spezia, Pisa, Empoli, Siena. There is only one way to get from Cinque Terre to Siena.
