Stop in Bologna or more time in Venice

Hey,

We are taking the train from Florence to Venice, and I was wondering if it is worth it to stop in Bologna for lunch. I know this might sound ridiculous but I am a huge fan of Bolognese sauce so I would like to have the opportunity to try it there, although I KNOW it is just as good in other cities.

Should we stop there or just take the fast train to Venice and enjoy more time in Venice?

Thanks

Hi Ptocruz. You don't say how much time you have in Venice, so I don't have context, but in general, I think it's a great idea. I'm a big fan of squeezing in an added experience when practical, and in this case it makes sense, since it's right on the way and their are so many trains per day. Enjoy your trip!

There is a regional fast train every hour at about 20 past the hour that is 2 hours to Venice S L for 11.05 euro. You can relax over that bowl of Bolognese and catch the train at your leisure.

I love Bologna and I think it has some of the best food in Italy. Order tagliatelle alla Bolognese for the traditional pasta course.

Great thread of messages for anyone with a flexible train connection in Bologna. Can any of you recommend an especially good restaurant or trattoria within a few minutes walk of the train station?

Okay I have 2 nights in Venice, but we have already been other times so I am not doing any major sights. I am just relaxing in Venice, strolling the streets, eating, and drinking.

Any restaurant recommendations? or other ideas of what to do with this short stop?

Thanks

The Bologna station is in the north of the city beyond the university with hotels surrounding.

The centre which has the old restaurants is 10 or 15 minutes walk away.

I love Bologna. It has wonderful food and a lively night life as it is the home to a large university. You should spend at least a day there. Lots to see and do. The San Petrino church is a must see. Hike up to the top of one of the towers for some gorgeous views. It is known as the city of red brick and arches. I love it. I like the restaurant Diane. I stay at the San Donato when I am there. It is within walking distance of many restaurants and gelato shops.
