Stop for a stretch in Pisa from Rome to CT

How feasable is it to stop in Pisa to see the tower on the way from Rome to CT?

My husband and son would love to see it, climb it, but I'm wondering if this would take too long.

Hi Liz - My buddy Steve is right on - as usual. An easy stop and a lot of fun. Now, for Steve - here's the question - How many steps to the top???
And Liz - You guys are going to LOVE Cinque Terre - Walk the section from Manarola to Riomaggiore - Only about a mile - flat and mostly paved, with a Cafe Halfway for a cold drink!!
Here's a pic of that section called Via dell'Amore(lovers path)

Elizabeth,

My husband and I made that stop between the CT and Siena. We got off the train, left our luggage at the station, rode the bus, got to the tower, took The Picture, and were back at the train station in 47 minutes.

Moss doesn't grow under our feet on a trip!

Pisa is perfect for a brief stop. My travel leg wasn't all the way from Rome, however, so I'm not sure what your schedule will look like.

Remember there is more to the Piazza dei Miracoli than just the tower. Take some extra time and see the Duomo and the Baptistry.

Definitely check out the Baptistry and listen for the demonstration of its acoustics by the singing guard. It's amazing. And the Duomo is also not to be missed.

Liz we are practically neighbors! When are you going on your trip? For our trip in July 2009 I made reservations from home for climbing the tower. We did Pisa as a daytrip from Florence. Was glad that I had made reservations as it was quite busy. Climbed it for the first time in June 2002 and didn't make reservations until arriving at the tower and had to wait a few hours but we had a car so it wasn't a problem. Our boys really enjoyed climbing the tower! Bring your passport as they asked to see it when I picked up the tickets. Didn't know this and only had a copy with me but they said that was o.k.
