Hello
We are driving from the Italian Riveria (Camogli) tomorrow am to the Chianti region of Tuscany (near Siena). Can anyone recommend a good, scenic pit stop for lunch and walking around? I was thinking of Portovenere but it seems that's a bit of a detour? Looking for a place not too much of a detour from the highway, easy driving and easy parking on a Sunday.
We have two kids, ages 9 and almost 4. Thanks!
If you want short drive, stop in Lucca, wonderful little medieval town.
If you want longer, San gimignano. Too many tourists at the time you'll be there, but wondeful medieval town as well
Is driving and parking in lucca difficult?
There are parking lots outside the walls in Luca. Do not drive inside unless you have a hotel reservation for a hotel with parking.
Another stop en route would be hill top Volterra.
We have stopped there twice and enjoyed it.There is garage parking as you drive up the hill, just before the actual town.
Agree with what was said by Suki.
Just go towards center by following the signs and find a public parking before you actually go into the Ztl areas.
