Still Looking for Scarves in Rome

Several weeks ago I posted that I was looking to buy scarves in Rome. I remember some great scarves in both Bellagio and the Florence outdoor market. I do not wish to pay designer prices. Does anybody have any good suggestions? Also, are stores open Saturday afternoon?

Hi Karen - That's an easy question - The Porto Portese Flea market has all the scarves you can possibly carry home and they will negotiate the prices!! Open only on Sunday - all day
A lot of stores are open on Saturday afternoon - Via Condotti but it is the most expensive shopping street in Rome - However, a lot of the side streets off of Via Condotti have great shops and good prices.

Ciao, Greg

Flea market--Does that mean that all the merchandise is second-hand? It does seem like it would be a fun thing to do.

There are many "legal" street vendors selling scarves all through Rome - in addtion to the many shops located off Via del Corso, Via Nazionale, or Via Cola di Rienzo (where I live!). There are many markets - and certainly Porta Portese will have scares. For more info on Porta Portese, CLICK HERE

Well, I went to Rome and bought lots of scarves, most of them not valuable, and some will end up being gifts. However, I almost gave up on finding an affordable square silk scarf. There was a Hermes store on Via Condotti; their scarves were great, but one cost almost 300E. The lady at the hotel suggested that I visit a department store; the silk scarves were still expensive, over 100E. I went to Furla where they were supposed to be affordable; these were over 80 E. Luckily, on this forum I read that I should check out the Porta Portese market. Great idea...Only one booth had the square silk scarves (about 30E) , but I did feel like I hit the jackpot...a fun place to shop besides. Thankyou Ron in Rome.
