Last time we were in Varenna due to injury, I was unable to climb the steep passageways up to the top. Going again in June 2011 and this time healthy and wonder if there are any side spots such as restaurants or shops or residences on the way up or is it simply a way to get to the top with no side views?

Jackie, you might want to delete your duplicate Thread on this subject. ¶ Could you clarify WHICH "steep passageways up to the top" you're referring to? I haven't noticed any that were particularly steep within the town itself.

sorry clicked it twice - near the ferries, there re at least 5 or more steep passageways

Jackie, "near the Ferries"? Albergo Olivedo is right across from the Ferry dock, and there's a road leading uphill (towards the station) from there. There are some passageways going up into town at the end of the lakeside promenade, but I don't recall any being especially steep.

Ken - I could be wrong. Perhaps I am confusing Bellatio with Varenna passageways. Am so anxious to know and pls correct me. If so, we'll go backto Bellagio for another visit there. In that event, are there steep passageways in Bellagio and if so, any side views??
