Steam train Siena to Asciano

Has anyone taken the antique steam train trip from Siena to Asciano recently? There’s availability on June 2 - their itinerary suggests that once we arrive in Asciano around noon, we’re on our own until a return departure around 6 pm. What does one do for the afternoon? How was the train experience? Thanks in advance!

It’s a quaint little town. Walk around and experience one of the local restaurants. Asciano is full of restaurants for a town that size. Just make sure you are seated by 1pm because the restaurants open for lunch only until 2-2;30. I have no experience with that steam train, but I’m sure it will be fun.

Melissa can you provide the web site where you located the itinerary? It sounds like a fun way to spend a day.

The name of that specific historic train is “Treno Natura” (Nature Train)
Information on historic trains is in the Italian State Railway Foundation
https://www.fondazionefs.it/
You can select the Region (Toscana I.e. Tuscany in this case) and type of train ( locomotiva a vapore, or steam locomotive) and the month. If you leave the month blank it will show all the Treno Natura journeys for all months, then you select the month you want by clicking on the images for each month.
Once you click on your itinerary choice, it will give you the information on how to book. The Foundation outsourced the booking part to a local travel agency in Siena called Visione del Mondo. You can call the agency, write to them, or click on the link to their website (see below), choose the Treno Natura journey you want and book through the site. I think they have an English language page (just look for the British flag somewhere).

Here is the travel agency’s site when I clicked.
