staying in venice

hi, I could use some quick help. we will be a family of 4 (2 teenage girls 17 & 18) in Venice for 2 nights in June. things seem to be filling up. I have it in my mind that we'd like to be by the "Rialto action" since we are there a short time. Does anyone have an opinion regarding Pensione Guerrato ( which is holding a room for me for another 12 hours) 800 years old -sounds neat and fun location. Is the only drawback steep/lots of steps with not lift? thoughts? Hotel La Residenza is a possibility too. it says 2 stars, we would want at least 3, I think. Ai Mori 'd Oriente Hotel? There is availability at Hilton Molino Stucky Venice Hotel but its 1.5 miles from the action. I feel like we should be in a hotel with a Venetian flair vs an American hotel. and Hotel Fontana is available. very pricey. is it worth it? any thoughts would be appreciated. thank you

I'd grab that room at Pensione Guerrato. We had two kids (18 and 21) with us this past summer on our visit there, and the location was perfect. Assuming you don't require assistance, the stairs are really only an issue for about 2 minutes (1 minute getting your luggage up when you get there, another minute getting it down when you leave).

It was one flight of stairs from the street to the lobby, and another (at least for us) up to our rooms. It's air-conditioned, the included breakfast is great and the hosts were extremely helpful. Convenient to ATMs and lots of shops, close to a row of cafes that are right on the grand canal, and only steps to the Rialto Market and vaporetto stop. We enjoyed our stay there!

I haven't been in any of the hotels you listed, but this is my take.
The historical center of Venice is very small and you can walk anywhere in minutes, so location is not very important. I make an exception for the Giudecca (where the Hilton is), which in my opinion would be the least convenient.
I've read in this forum that many were pleased with the Guerrato. I don't know about the lift situation but I doubt there are too many hotels in Venice with a lift. Unless some of you has mobility issues, that shouldn't be a factor. The Guerrato is the hotel most centrally located among the ones you mentioned.
In terms of stars, that is up to you and your budget. My take is that when in Venice you won't spend too much time inside the hotel, therefore fancy amenities will have limited value.

sm,

I'd also highly recommend grabbing that room at Pensione Guerrato before someone else does. As the others have said, unless you have mobility issues, it would be a great choice.

Perfect hubestur and Roberto, thanks so much for that information. I'm grabbing the room at Pensione Guerrato and moving on with my planning. Great peace of mind. Thank you. I really appreciate you both taking the time to reply. We will take a car as we leave Venice and am thinking we will find a coastal scenic drive to a nice east coast spot. relax and explore for a couple of nights before heading into Rome. If anyone has any thoughts on that piece of the trip, I'd love to hear those too.

I've always enjoyed the Pensione Guerrato and the lovely Roberto.

If you have 2 teenage daughters 17 and 18 I'm sure they will be happy to carry the bags up and down.

I wonder which room you will get.

Enjoy, enjoy.
