We would like to stay in Varenna the night before our flight out of Milan, Linate on May 27. We will be flying to Frankfurt and connecting to Houston. Our flight is at 10:20 am. The first train from Varenna is at 5:37 am and takes a little over an hour. Taxi to Linate is 5 miles. Would we be crazy to try this or should we stay in Milan overnight? Thanks!
You should be good, it’s a direct train with no connections and takes about an hour to Milan Centrale, much of the 5 miles is city driving, but even if the cab ride took an hour, (unlikely) you are at he airport before 8:00.
And since you are flying to Frankfurt, no need to be there as early as an international
Flight to US.
I’d recommend buying the tickets in Varanna the day before, and remember to validate before you get on the train.
I would sleep much better taking an airport shuttle express type service since it’s just over an hour to drive straight there. Something like this: http://www.airports-shuttle-express.com/varenna-taxi-reservation/book-taxi-from-varenna-to-milan-linate-airport-(lin).html
Note: I have not used this company, so I can’t vouch for their quality.
Hey Sharon,
Just to be safe, I think you should stay in Milan the night before to avoid potential train delays. Sometimes you have no control over unforeseen circumstances so don't take any chances on departure day. The last thing you don't want to happen is missing your flight to Frankfurt and not make the Houston connection. Although the trains in Italy are mostly on time, However, on a travel date, you don't want to take too much of a risk.
