staying in Tuscany withouta car

The 6 of us are wanting to stay in Tuscany...we’d prefer Sienna area 4 nights...but without a car. Our goal is to do one day trip into Rome(we’ve been there before) and another to Florence & Pisa. I’m having trouble finding a house for us that will be close to Sienna trains and bus stations. Suggestions?

Looking quickly on airbnb and making several assumptions (like 3 couples, 2 bathrooms needed, washing machine, etc.), I saw several nice apartments inside the medieval walls of Siena and within close walking distance to the train station. A few outside the walls, but still in a nice area. A wide range of prices.

Siena to Rome is a 3 to 3 1.2 hour trip, so a day trip to Rome would take most of your day just traveling.

Based on what you want to do (visit Florence, Rome, Pisa during your stay), you should base yourself in Florence.

THIS

If you absolutely have to stick to that itinerary, that would be the way to do it. A day trip to Rome, not sure what you're gonna accomplish but, you're going to be spending more time viewing the inside of a train than actually enjoying Rome itself.

If you've already been to Rome, why visit for such a short time? Better to use that time to enjoy and explore the Tuscan hill towns or, jump over to Bologna and get a different side of Italy.

Another vote for staying in Florence. It just makes sense to base in a major transport hub for this itinerary. 4 nights is also just 3 full days of sightseeing. If you stay in Florence, you can sightsee the city with however many hours are left of arrival day, do 1 day trip to Rome, 1 day trip to Siena, and 1/2 day to Pisa with the balance spent back in Florence.

Even better, I'd cut Rome altogether, as you've seen it before, and spend that day in Florence too. Depending on your interests, there's more than plenty to see there to fill 1 full and 2 partial days.

If you stay in the Tuscan countryside, you should rent a car to get around.
Day trip to Rome is not a good idea.
