we will be spending 3 nights in florence ,after, we are deciding whether to stay in siena (which we have visited once before) or going to arezzo/cortona area any suggesstions?
Siena to me is perfect for visits by public bus to Pienza , S Gimignano, Montepulciano. Cortona for hill towns nrby but you will need a car. I have done both but prefer Siena & nrby.
Agree that Siena offers more options for day trips if using public transportation. I stayed in Cortona this past May and day tripped to Arezzo by train. Other day trips are possible, but less convenient using public transportation. Cortona would be a great location if you have a car. Also, it's much smaller than Siena, which can be a plus or minus depending on your preference. I stayed at Casa Kita, which was nice and only a very short walk from the Piazza Garibaldi bus stop.
