We are looking to stay in Trastevee part of Rome.
Is this an OK location, safe?
thank you
Hi David, are you talking about the Trastavere area?
I am also looking for a place to stay for November and everything I've been researching says that this is a very safe area. The only questionable area is south of the Termini area. That is what I've been seeing...I may be wrong.
Its on the other side of the river.
but we will have a car.
We stayed 9 nights at the Hotel Trastevere, in the Trastevere, recently and really liked it. Nearly everything is in walking distance or you have Tram 8, #23 bus, and H bus to get you from Trastevere Station, to the Vatican, or to Termini respectively. Near the hotal are lots of restaurants, a couple bakeries, coffee bars, small groceries, and pizza places. We would definitely look to stay in the area again if in Rome.
Sorry to be negative, but you do not need or want a car in Rome, and certainly not in Trastevere. In T there is not even room for your body, much less a scooter. T is a great area...see other posts regarding it.
Skip the car while in Rome. Either drop it off before you reach town or pick it up after you're done with Rome. Trastevere is perfectly safe but sure you're located in the northern part of Trastevere - not near Trastevere station where there's not so much going on.
Do not have a car. Trastavere is only a 10 - 15 walk to areas such as Campo de Fiori, Piazza Navonna etc.
It is an interesting area and one which we haven't yet stayed in - but would certainly do so. And is as safe as anywhere else I'd imagine. You are in a large city so just take the normal precautions.
We are picking up the lease at the Airport, and will park it for the 3 days we are in Rome.
thanx for the info!
You would be much better off picking the car up in Rome on your way out of the city. Rentals from the airport cost more. The last thing you will want to do after a transatlantic flight is navigate your way through Trastevere - many Romans that don't live in this area get turned around!
