Staying in Salerno-Visiting Amalfi Coast October 1 - October 3

I am not sure the best way to visit and enjoy this area. Driving by bus or private driver from Salerno to Sorrento dosen’t seem wise since we would be on the wrong side of the road for the best views. It would seem to be better to take a boat to Sorrento and hire a driver to take us from Sorrento back to Salerno. I’m traveling with my wife and two sisters and I’m sure they would like to stop along the way. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you tell us which towns other than Salerno and Sorrento you want to visit?
Is this area 3 nights (which would give you
2 1/2 days) or 4 nights? (3 1/2 days)

Day 1 First thought is take the first ferry Salerno-Sorrento. Then work your way to Positano by Ferry. Next bus to Salerno.

Day 2. Ferry, Salerno-Amalfi. Bus Immediately to Ravello. Bus back to Amalfi.
Explore Amalfi. Time dependent, ferry or bus to Salerno.

Day 3. Ferry to Minori or Cetara. Ferry to Vietri sul mare, bus to Salerno.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Salerno is a great home base for the Amalfi coast towns (Amalfi/Positano/Ravello usually atop that list.) You’re right that it’s extremely difficult for you to get to Sorrento. For that reason alone I’d say skip it, but more to the point it’s not all that interesting. Sorrento gets marks for being pleasant and conveniently located as a base. You 100% do not need to go there. The AC towns are the highlight reel and you should focus on them. I find the ferry to be the best way to take in the views, and seeing the towns from the water are unforgettable.
