Hi, everyone! My fiance and I are planning a 3 week tour of Italy, and looking to stay a few nights in Salerno. We're using Salerno as a base; planning on staying there, and taking day trips to surrounding towns/ Amalfi either via ferry or public transportation. As we're booking hotels (will be there end of May/June) we're looking for recommendations for affordable, clean hotels in Salerno. Any suggestions as to which part of the town is nice, or even specific hotels, and places to eat are welcome! Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences there!
Nothing on hotels, but be sure to visit Paestum.
We will be in Salerno in March, staying 5 nights at a B&B. The good thing is that Salerno is centrally located - 35 min train to Naples, 1 hr bus to Amalfi, 2 hr bus to Positano (ferry not operating in March). 1 hr train to Pompeii, less than that via train to Paestum. We plan to do daytrips in this regard. And Salerno seems to be a very charming, locals town as well. We will be staying in the historic district, near the Piazza Sedile di Portanova. I will make sure to post when we get back as to great restaurants at which we dined.
