Anybody have tips on where to stay in Positano relatively close to the shore, not too many steps? Thanks,
Thx so much. Don't Mind some stairs, just don't want to be too far away. Julie
Il Covo dei Saraceni is on the beach, but most other places require at least some climbing.
It's not a coincidence that locals when they say "I'm going home" don't say "andiamo a casa" but rather "saliamo a casa" ("we are climbing home").
There are only very few hotels as far as I remember, close to the shore in the area where no cars can get in. However luggage carrying forklifts can operate in that area.
Most of the hotels are at the upper part where cars operate in a very narrow road. Critical thing is there is a bus moving in circle and it is possible to go to any uphill hotel by that bus in every 20 minutes or so. I also have some climbing difficulties, therefore last year we stayed at Royal Prisco, which is closer to the pedestrian area by the shore more than many others. Don't forget that pedestrian area also requires some climbing - almost unavoidable if you are in Positano - and this hotel has some stairs inside as well with no elevator but the owners help with the luggage. Check this hotel from the internet if it suits your requirements. If you need further specific information you can ask to me. Have a nice trip, I think the town is beautiful and worth the difficulties encountered to walk around.
We stayed at Villa La Tartania, a lovely B&B in Positano, balcony overlooking water and just a short walk to the beach, great breakfast room with a bar for late night glass of wine. We had a lot of luggage as we were there for a wedding and on the day we left, they called for transportation, which was a golf cart that took all our luggage up to the main bus stop for about 20 euro, worth it believe me. I don't remember it having an elevator.
